100 Kilo Herz
With no prominient off-beat, no up-stroked guitar, and no walking bass-lines it's not ska.
Anti-fascism. Anti-sexism. Real music. Three things we need.
When I first hit play on 100 Kilo Herz I was served up Drei Jahre Ausgebrannt I thought "oh cool, German ska punk". The horn section is fantastic. Then I listened some more and realised there's no prominient off-beat, no up-stroked guitar, and no walking bass-lines. It's not ska. But it has horns. So...horn punk?
My German isn't quite quick enough to get all the lyrics, but there are very strong anti-fascism and anti-sexism themes that shine through. Which in today's world of genocide, terror, rioting, and femicide, we need.
The music is very much up my alley. Aggressive enough. Horns. Boppable. Catchy melodies.
Give it a listen.
