The Copper Top
Birth, love, and death: the only reasons to get dressed up.
Everything's Getting Older (2011)
Aidan Moffat and Bill Wells
A gorgeously sparse piece of music with a spoken story about a man pondering life, love, and death, while avoiding attending a wake.
I can hear four instruments - a repeating melody and bass chords on piano, a bass, a violin, and a muted trumpet. It's sparse, and gentle. Perfectly weighted for the theme of the story told over the top. The rests between some of the notes are just a smidge longer than they probably should be from a pure timing perspective, which gives the whole piece a tension.
